Fishermen's Village

Fishermen's Village

The fishing village was one of the first populated areas on Praia do Francês. There, the charm of the colorful little houses complements the landscape of one of the most beautiful stretches of sea, where part of the beach remains protected by the coral reef and the other is open to the ocean. In addition, the street, with its interlocking paving stones, also has shops, bars, and snack bars. It is, without a doubt, another place in the region that you can visit by bicycle. From the fishing village, you can also continue to the coconut grove, a place very popular with tourists. There, you'll find a beautiful view of the sunset, a scene that seems to have been painted on a canvas.

Green Corridor

Green Corridor

The Green Corridor is a space designed to serve as a leisure and recreation area for locals and tourists of Praia do Francês. It begins on Bougainville Street and extends to Avenida dos Corais, just two blocks from the beach. In this way, it connects several streets in the area and serves as a shortcut to the sea, while also being an attraction in itself. Pergolas and benches run along the entire length of the corridor: an invitation to sit and contemplate the trees, have an ice cream, or chat. At the same time, there is a wall with graffiti art of marine animals, flowers, and butterflies – the perfect setting for a souvenir photo. In addition, along the corridor, you will also find several craft shops and food kiosks with a variety of options.

Church of Saint Mary Magdalene and Convent of Saint Francis

Church of Saint Mary Magdalene and Convent of Saint Francis

Construction of the church and convent, which began in the 17th century, features plant-shaped ornaments on the facade, crafted from limestone, framed windows in the choir, and a central window with an oculus that enhances ventilation. The first mass was held in 1723, but construction was only completed in 1793, more than 100 years after its commencement in 1684. The chapel has an altarpiece, a stone or carved wooden structure that rises behind an altar. It is the only building in Northeast Brazil to possess this type of work. Another rare aspect of this historic building is the presence, on the altar, of an image of Christ Crucified, an example from the Jansenist school. Besides this one, there is only one other in all of Brazil, in the state of Bahia.
